Countertenor John Holiday is excited to announce his 2019-20 season, including a world premiere with LA Opera, and several national and international debuts. Holiday kicks off his season by bringing his Baroque expertise for his debut at La Jolla Music Festival, singing a selection of Purcell and Handel arias alongside the famed Mark Morris Dance Group. He then made his debut at the Art Macau Festival for performances of his “excellent” (New York Times) portrayal as the First Male Voice in Huang Ruo’s chamber opera Paradise Interrupted, a role he created at the Spoleto Festival in 2016 for the world premiere.
Holiday’s season continues with his debut at the Lucerne Symphony as the alto soloist in Handel’s Messiah and in a solo recital with Roger Vignoles, followed by a welcome return to the LA Opera in Matthew Aucoin’s new opera Eurydice, which reimagines ancient mythology for a modern age, alongside Danielle de Niese, Rod Gilfry, Joshua Hopkins, and Barry Banks. The season concludes with his house debut at Dayton Opera in a semi-staged production of "Going for Baroque" with Dayton Ballet, followed by a recital in conjunction with Jacob Lawrence's "Struggle Series" at The MET Museum.
